Privacy Policy

LinguaBridge ("we", "the app") is a social language-exchange application. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are.
1. Data we collect
- Account data: email address, display name, handle, date of birth (used only to verify you are 18+), country, city, time zone, and password (stored as a salted hash — we never see it in plain text).
- Profile data you choose to add: bio, photos, languages you speak or learn, interests, and prompt answers.
- Content you create: messages (text, photos, voice notes), community posts, comments, and saved phrases synced to your device.
- Usage signals: last-active time, online presence, and Cork wallet transactions (Corks are the app's virtual currency).
- Safety records: reports you file or that are filed about you, and block lists.
2. How we use it
- To run the service: matching partners, delivering messages, enabling voice/video calls, and showing community posts.
- To keep the community safe: automated moderation may temporarily suspend or permanently ban accounts that receive multiple independent reports or blocks.
- Report review: when a user files a report, our safety team may review the reported content — including messages exchanged between the reporter and the reported account — solely to investigate the report and enforce our community rules.
- To power optional AI features (translation, tone suggestions, pronunciation feedback): the text or audio you explicitly submit is processed by our AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI) and is not used to train their models per our API agreements.
- To send push notifications about messages, calls, and friend requests (you can disable these in your device settings).
3. What we never do
- We do not sell your personal data.
- We do not show third-party advertising.
- We do not read your conversations for marketing purposes.
4. Storage and processors
Data is stored on Railway (API and database) and Cloudinary (photos and voice messages). Push notifications are delivered via Expo and Firebase Cloud Messaging. AI requests are processed by Anthropic and OpenAI.
5. Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account, and you choose how: permanently and immediately, which destroys your profile, photos, messages, conversations, posts, wallet and safety records on the spot with no undo; or after a 20-day window, during which your account is deactivated and invisible but can be restored by signing back in, after which the same data is erased automatically. You can also request deletion by emailing [email protected] from your registered address; we complete such requests within 30 days.
6. Your rights
You can export your data from Settings → Export My Data, correct your profile at any time, and delete your account as described above. If you are in the EU/EEA, you additionally have GDPR rights of access, rectification, erasure, and portability.
7. Children
LinguaBridge is strictly for users aged 18 and over. We verify age at signup and remove underage accounts that are reported to us.
8. Changes
We will update this page when the policy changes and note the date above. Significant changes are announced in the app.
